Villupuram junction

This is how a railway station sign looks like - English wording in the middle, regional language above it (Tamil in this case) and Hindi wording below it. The poster on the left side says its for someone's birthday (!). Canon EOS 3/ Kodak 200

Street and Street Vendors

This area is the entrance that is called Main Guard Gate in Trichy. It used to be a crumbly old granite wall, but its been fixed so it looks fake. There are always carts filled with plastic junk, and other street vendors selling anything from vegetables and fruit to jewellery and safety pins.Canon EOS 3/Kodak 160

A bus driver drinking porridge

This picture is of a bus driver drinking spiced up porridge made from rice. I didnt know it was porridge until a friend pointed it out. Considering the shortage of clean water, I thought maybe someone came up with an idea of selling water on the street. I was so wrong. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 160

Two-wheelers around

It doesn't matter if the street is a smaller street leading to nowhere or one of the major lifelines connecting most of the city, scenes like these are common. Bicycles and motor bikes are parked everywhere. Sand for some construction is heaped in a mound. People are around going about their business. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 160

A temple by a street

This street has a temple, the entrance of which is in the picture. Most stores are closed because of Good Friday (that was my street drive day). The yellow box-like thing on the right side of the picture is a phone for local calls. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 160

Street Trichy

One of many streets in Trichy. A lot of things are happening in this picture. Guy on the XL is on this cellphone, and a biker is coming down the other way. There are a bunch of women by a water tap waiting with their plastic "pots" to fill water. One of the ladies is crouching - I am not sure if she was crying or not. There is an auto parked, and a man pushing a handcart filled with possibly firewood. And far off, you can see the steeple of a catholic church - The 100+ year old St. Joseph's Cathedral. Of Plastic

This is a common sight in the streets of India. Street vendors sell all kindsof plastic goods. Sometimes you have to hit the streets to get something specific. Canon EOS 3/ Kodak 160

A watermelon stand and a cow

A watermelon stand on a street. The vendor decided to feed watermelon skin to the cow, and the cow decided to stay put in the middle of the street and eat it. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 160

Vegetable carts

This cart is filled with beets, carrots and green beans, along with a little weigh machine in the middle. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 160

Street Vendors

Street vendors sit with their produce of mangoes, drumsticks, cucumbers. Posters of adverts for companies and movies cover most walls in most of India. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 100

People walking by

This street is one of the busiest streets, and the reason it is not crowded is because I was out on Good Friday and most stores were closed. A lady and her daughter. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 100

Facing The Rock Fort Temple

The temple in the background is what Trichy is known for, among other things. The Rock Fort Temple. This street leads to its entrance. There is an auto going towards it, a cycle rickshaw coming away from it. There are shops on either side of the street selling books to shoes to clothes to jewellery. There's people in all kinds of Indian garb. Canon EOS 3/Kodak 100

A cycle rickshaw close up

The big lettes say "Padma Coffee". The old man coming around is the cycle rickshaw owner/driver. The sign below with the face nailed in says "Sri Madurai Veeran". Veeran means Hero. Madurai is the name of a place 3 hours from Trichy. It has its history in heroes and temples. The nailed face belongs to the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu. The name's J. Jayalalitha. Trichy interior - Main Guard Gate area

I have no idea what this street is called, but we used to go down here to buy craft stuff for school, when we had to do some decorating in school. There is a bent old man walking, and a younger girl with her long hair full of flowers, gold bangles on her swinging hand, and talking on a cellphone. This picture was taken on my Canon EOS 3, with a Kodak 100 film.
